Tim Horton’s Joe McGuire Road Race

Race Day Info

Bibs and T-shirt Pick-up:  All participants are asked to pick up their bib and t-shirt at the Fire Station/Town Hall at 824 Main Street from 7 am-8 am only.  This is the same location as the race start. RACE STARTS at 8:30 am. Parking Area located behind the Town Hall. Washrooms are Located in the Fire Station and Town Hall.

RACE NOTES:
Race Route for 5K Run/Walk: Start at the Fire Station on Main St; proceed up Main to the Grafton Bridge; turn right onto the bridge; turn right off of the bridge; travel down Route 105 to the turn-around markers for the 5K; proceed back to the finish line at the old Irving parking lot, which will be a marked area.
5K Walk: A reminder that all participants that have registered in the 5K Walk Division are not permitted to Run.
Race Route for 10K Run: Run Start at the Fire Station on Main St; proceed up Main to the Grafton Bridge; turn right onto the bridge; turn right off of the bridge; travel down Route 105 to the turn-around markers for the 10K; proceed back to the finish line at the old Irving parking lot, which will be a marked area.

  • There are two water stations: one at 5 K turn around & 10 K turn around
  • Race ends at old Grafton Irving Parking Lot (beside O’Toole Gallery)
POST-RACE NOTES:
  • Refreshments Available at the finish line
  • Presentation of awards will take place at the finish line following the race
  • Shuttle Available to take participants back to the Fire Station/Town Hall
  • Showers Available at the AYR Motor Centre at 105 Connell Park Road

JOE McGUIRE
Joe McGuire is a native of Woodstock.  He is a High School teacher, coach, referee, and a renowned distance runner.
Joe started his running career in 1977 completing his first marathon in 1979.  Since then he has completed over 200 races of which approximately 40 were marathons.
Highlights were:
  • 11 Boston, 3 Halifax (one of which was Joe’s best marathon time, 2 hr., 27 min., currently a N.B. record), 3 New York, 2 Ottawa (one of which was Olympic Trials), and 1 Chicago.
  • Joe has won 5 National Masters races: 2 marathons, one 13.1 mile, one 20K and one 10K
  • Joe currently holds the Canadian Maters record for five miles on the road, (24 minutes 56 seconds)
As a master, Joe has not lost a race in Canada or in the New England States.  The highlight of Joe’s career was the Boston Marathon in 1985 when he won the masters’ category and was the first Canadian finisher overall.  He has been the top Canadian master’s finisher each year that he has run Boston.
In recognition of his success in Boston, the Woodstock Old Home Week Road Race was renamed the Joe McGuire Road Race in 1985.  Woodstock’s Joe McGuire continues to run and compete in races.
